About Solana Beach
Solana Beach is a charming, tranquil town located along the northern coast of San Diego County, about 30 minutes from downtown San Diego. This 4 square mile beach community is home to about 13,000 residents. The city boasts an ideal climate for year around outdoor enjoyment. Average temperatures are 77 degrees in the summer and 62 degrees in the winter.
Founded in 1886 by the George H. Jones family, what is now known as Solana Beach began to rapidly develop after the Lake Hodges Dam was built in 1917. Today, the city is a favorite spot for dining, hiking, nightlife, eclectic shopping and golfing.
There are 3 small beaches along the Solana Beach coast known to be great for surfing and body boarding, but less ideal for sunbathers due to the crashing surf. Fletcher Cove is a cobblestone beach with a park that overlooks the ocean. There are spots for volleyball, shuffleboard, basketball and picnic tables which makes it a favorite family spot. Tide Beach Park is a great place for exploring tide pools and snorkeling. Seascape Shores is the third beach and is located just south of Fletcher Cove.
